PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Mrs. Sherry
Weinberg, Principal
Medford Township School District
|
October, 2006 We’re off to a great start of the school year. The children have returned to school ready to learn and to work together in our school community, thanks to the parents who show their support for our school in so many ways. We thank all of you who attended Back to School Night to learn about the policies and curriculum in your child’s class. Thank you to the many parents who volunteered to be room parents and to serve on our school’s HSA committees. Thank you to the first grade moms who have volunteered to help us with our new fitness program. Through all of these efforts, you’ve really helped to improve our school and to partner with us in truly celebrating our 30th year.
What is a SEIN number? This week you received a request from the District to complete a form with important information about how we can communicate with you in case of an emergency. It is very important that you complete this form, sign it and return it to school with your children. The SEIN numbers that you provide will enable an automated phone system to reach you within minutes of an emergency and to continue to reach you with updates as needed throughout the day. Please remember to update this most important information each time you get a new phone number.
Wednesday, October 11,
2006. 6:30-8:30 PM TICKETS WILL BE ON SALE AT LUNCH beginning October 3rd (Parents, please remember that we pay $250 to rent Scooters for the night, so we need $3.00 admission from everyone who comes through the door)
A SPECIAL WARNING
Recently, you may have seen a Medford family on Channel 3 NEWS along with some special programming that focused on the dangers of falling televisions. The parents of the injured child want to share with all of you the important facts that this incident taught them: The television in their bedroom, which fell onto their daughter, was stored in a solid, substantial piece of furniture—a storage piece like many of us own. The child was not climbing on the piece; she simply opened the door to pull on the slide out drawer that the television has rested upon for many years...and that is the problem. An eight year old television is front heavy and this one had slowly worked its way forward in the cabinet from the normal vibrations of people moving about in the house. Coupled with the wood and metal fatigue of such a heavy piece now unbalancing the shelf itself, the television fell forward the instant one of the doors was opened...breaking the other door off its hinge. Thankfully, the child is recovering well from life-threatening injuries. On her behalf and for your own children’s welfare, please check the cabinet that holds your television. Make sure your TV is pushed to the back. Think about ways of fastening it to the surface upon which it is sitting. Falling furniture is a leading cause of death in young children.

I READ TO THE PRINCIPAL
Thanks to Mrs.
Holberg’s first grade class Students from any class who want to practice reading a story that they have written or a book that they particularly enjoy, are invited to read to the principal and be acknowledged with a badge and a mention in this newsletter. It’s a great way for me to get to know the children. Please help us! Parking is very difficult and dangerous at Taunton Forge. Many people are so frustrated at trying to find a spot that they park where parking is clearly marked as illegal or where emergency vehicles would be blocked from getting to an emergency situation, such as a bus fire or the catastrophic illness of a bus driver or another staff member. We need to keep a clear path open along the tree line throughout the day, but especially when buses are loading and unloading. I have been informed that Medford police may soon be issuing tickets to illegally parked cars in our lot. |
